Wedding ceremony permits

Start with the exact ceremony site. Different parts of the region have different booking authorities.

Shire-managed beaches and reserves

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River requires a permit for ceremonies on its managed land. Public areas remain shared: exclusive use is not granted.

Its listed ceremony locations include Gnarabup, Flinders Bay and selected other reserves. Protect vegetation, keep to pathways and leave seaweed where it is. Check the current location list and application process directly.

Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup

A booking is required for wedding ceremonies on City of Busselton managed public open space. Its current page describes a maximum two-hour ceremony booking, including setup and pack-down.

Confirm the actual reserve, setup, alcohol requirements and current fees with the City. A ceremony booking is not a general approval for a reception or other event.

National parks and Boranup

For a national park ceremony, consult Parks and Wildlife rather than assuming a council booking applies. Establish the exact site and discuss access, guests, equipment and any commercial supplier activity.

Private properties and accommodation

Get written event permission from the property owner or manager. A holiday booking does not automatically allow a wedding, outside guests or a marquee.

Ask the relevant local authority and operator about event requirements, sound, alcohol, catering, temporary structures and fire conditions. The answer depends on the property and proposed activity.

Check the outdoor details

  • Guest access, mobility needs, parking and toilets.
  • Wind, rain, tides, swell and a genuine alternative location.
  • Furniture, decorations, confetti, pets and waste removal.
  • Sound, alcohol, photography, filming and drone permissions.

Use this guide to find the right authority. The current permit and its conditions govern your event.
